Suffolk County just received a major boost in its fight against water pollution. Governor Hochul announced $30 million in funding to help homeowners replace outdated septic systems with advanced, cleaner technology. This move addresses decades of groundwater contamination on Long Island and builds on state efforts to ensure cleaner water long-term.

A proposed 90% federal funding cut endangers New York’s clean water and poses threats to infrastructure upgrades and public health protections. With possible state budget adjustments on the horizon, advocates are pushing to protect full funding under state revolving funds while also defending key programs such as the Clean Water Infrastructure Act from potential roll backs.

On July 4th, President Trump signed the “Big Ugly Bill,” gutting core climate policies through cutting clean energy tax credits, EV incentives, raising energy costs, and jeopardizing over a million jobs. State and local level climate leadership will be more important than ever as we face the repercussions of this bill.

As the 2025 Legislative Session came to a close on June 18, an act to repeal the ‘100-foot rule’ successfully passed in both houses and is now awaiting action by Governor Hochul.

The Programs Manager is responsible for developing and executing statewide community engagement programs. The role includes leading NYLCVEF’s tabling and field organizing efforts, managing public education initiatives, and representing the organization in key coalitions.

As the slew of Trump administration rollbacks build, it is quite clear that the federal government is intent on unraveling years of climate progress. These environmental policy setbacks not only pose threats to global climate efforts, but also to New York’s climate agenda and NYLCV’s collaborative efforts with local politicians to enact bold climate action across the state. The Senate Republicans’ recent sweeping reconciliation bill prominently illustrates this threat, aiming to derail foundational clean energy incentives, threaten over one million jobs, and significantly increase energy costs for Americans.
