The rapid growth of data centers presents New York with both an extraordinary opportunity and an important responsibility. Artificial intelligence and the technologies powered by data centers are here to stay, but their growth cannot come at the expense of our communities or our clean energy future. If we’re going to build hyperscale data centers, we need to hyperscale our investments in renewable energy, transmission, and storage. Governor Hochul’s Executive Order is a thoughtful step that creates the time needed to establish strong guardrails so future development supports our electric grid, our environment, and the New Yorkers who depend on both.
