The New York League of Conservation Voters Gives Green congratulates all candidates in New York City and across the state on a hard-fought primary election, especially those in competitive NYLCV-endorsed races who have won or are currently ahead. NYLCV-endorsed candidates in 31 races faced primary opponents and in 26 of them – or 83% – our slate were victorious or are ahead after last night’s election
“With a federal government systematically stripping away our environmental laws and pivoting to a fossil fuel future, we need leaders in local governments to stand in and step up to protect frontline communities from extreme weather events and pollution,” said NYLCV President Julie Tighe. “The number one thing individuals can do to fight the climate crisis is vote in local elections, and that is why the overwhelming success of our candidates is so important. Municipal leaders play an important role in shaping the environment we live, work and play in, and we look forward to taking the fight into the general election to ensure we elect strong advocates for clean air and water, green jobs, and a healthier future.”
NYLCV Gives Green winners include Mark D. Levine for NYC Comptroller, Jumaane Williams for Public Advocate, Antonio Reynoso for Brooklyn Borough President, Vanessa Gibson for Bronx Borough President, 21 candidates for New York City Council, and Sharon Owens for Mayor of Syracuse.
