The New York League of Conservation Voters released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s rollback of greenhouse gas standards for power plants:
Despite a summer of record-breaking heatwaves and once-in-a-generation storms, the Environmental Protection Agency has eliminated regulations on greenhouse gases emitted by coal- and gas-burning power plants. This rollback will allow dirty power plants to release unknown amounts of pollutants into the air, putting people’s health at risk while failing to address the rising costs of electricity. Only by building more renewable, clean energy can we keep up with increasing demand and actually bring costs down. We urge the EPA to reverse course on this proposal and keep limits on power plants’ emissions in place.
