The New York League of Conservation Voters today released its 10-Point Environmental Action Plan outlining a comprehensive roadmap for Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani to advance ambitious and attainable climate action in his first 100 days, first budget, and first year in office. Following a historic victory, the Mayor-elect has a rare opportunity to firmly establish New York City as a national leader on climate and environmental policy, while maintaining his central focus on delivering affordability for all New Yorkers. At a time when federal environmental protections are being rolled back, strong local leadership is essential — and New York must demonstrate what is possible.
Mayor-elect Mamdani has made it clear that climate action will be a core priority for his administration, including in commitments he made at NYLCVEF’s Environmental Candidate Forum this spring. These include ensuring full implementation of Local Law 97, expanding reliable and affordable public transit, rebuilding the city’s capacity to manage waste, and deploying innovative resilience strategies such as floodable parks and porous surfaces. NYLCV’s 10-point plan offers a clear, actionable framework to move these commitments from vision to reality.

NYLCV’s 10-Point Environmental Action Plan provides a focused framework for the Mayor-elect to deliver measurable climate progress across the city’s core environmental priorities. The plan highlights the most impactful actions the new administration can take to accelerate sustainable building upgrades, expand renewable energy, improve transit and street safety, advance zero-waste goals, strengthen parks and open space, and bolster the city’s resilience to flooding, heat, and other climate impacts. It also emphasizes improving living conditions in NYCHA developments, expanding affordable housing near transit, and rebuilding the staffing and operational capacity of city agencies responsible for implementing climate and environmental laws.
