The New York League of Conservation Voters Gives Green congratulates all candidates on a hard fought primary election. On a night where 53 of NYLCV Gives Green’s 116 endorsed candidates had primaries, 41 of those candidates won or are currently leading in their elections.
“With Washington continuing its assault on environmental protections and doubling down on fossil fuels, it has never been more important to elect leaders at every level of government who will fight for clean air, clean water, and a healthier future for all New Yorkers,” said NYLCV President Julie Tighe. “Local and state elected officials are on the front lines of protecting communities from pollution, strengthening climate resilience, and building the affordable clean energy future New Yorkers deserve. NYLCV Gives Green-endorsed candidates’ strong performance in this election demonstrates that voters continue to support leaders who are committed to protecting public health, lowering energy costs, and advancing bold environmental solutions. We look forward to carrying that momentum into the general election this November.”
Primary election highlights include:
- Statewide candidate Comptroller Tom Dinapoli advanced to the general election.
- In Congress, NYLCV Gives Green scored a major victory in CD-12 with the election of Micah Lasher in one of the most expensive and competitive congressional races in history.
- In the State Senate, six of NYLCV Gives Green’s eight endorsed candidates will move on to the general election, including Assemblymember Grace Lee, who won her competitive primary for State Senate in Lower Manhattan.
- In the State Assembly, 24 of 30 endorsed candidates in primaries have won or are ahead, including high-profile wins in open seats with Nathaniel Hezekiah (Queens), Samantha Kattan (Queens), Eli Northrup (Manhattan), Frank Jereis (Westchester), and Dan Norton (Southern Tier) coming out victorious.
- Locally, NYLCV Gives Green helped ensure the towns of Greenburgh and East Hampton kept their climate champions in office, while winning a key race in the Onondaga County Legislature.
In total, 104 NYLCV Gives Green-endorsed candidates will likely move on to the general election.
