NYLCV NYC Program Associate Carlos Castell Croke testified at the City Council Finance Committee Executive Budget hearing. We advocated for funding for parks as well as staffing in critical environmental offices.

The New York City Council last week passed legislation to restrict food-service establishments from giving out single-use plastic straws, except upon request. This will cut the city’s plastic output that reaches our landfills and oceans. 

Mayor de Blasio’s recent announcement about a commitment to school bus electrification is a monumental step towards our goal.  However, there is still more work to be done in order to ensure that this commitment is upheld by the next mayor and that it is codified into law.

On Earth Day, Mayor de Blasio announced that the city's food scrap collection program would restart and a transition to electric school buses citywide, among other initiatives. We have long been advocating for both of these policies, including as founding members of the NYC Clean School Bus Coalition.
