The state’s proposed $3 Billion Environmental Bond Act includes $700 million in funding for climate change mitigation projects, including green and energy-efficient buildings, carbon sequestration and emissions mitigation, climate adaptation and mitigation, urban forestry, and air and water pollution reduction.

Although City parks make up 14% of NYC’s land, New York City's Parks Department receives only 0.6% of the City’s total budget, leaving parks and gardens neglected and overlooked as necessary infrastructure for successful and healthy neighborhoods.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed $24 million in cuts to the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) as a result of the current economic recession. These cuts, which are part of a proposed $1.3 billion budgetary reduction package, would affect all commuters but would have a disproportionately large, negative impact on low-income New Yorkers of color.

Part of the cuts to the upcoming NYC Budget include a $24.5 million cut in funding for the organic waste recycling program. City officials, residents, and activists are moving to salvage pieces of the existing program and expansions that had been introduced before the pandemic.

The $3 billion Environmental Bond Actwill provide $550 million for open space land conservation and recreation projects if approved by voters this fall.

The Environmental Bond Act, officially known as the Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Bond Act, will be on the ballot November 8 (with early voting starting Oct. 29), giving New Yorkers the opportunity to pass the state’s first environmental bond initiative this century.
