Erik Bottcher

Erik Bottcher is running for election to represent District 47 in the New York State Senate.

Erik Bottcher is running for election to represent District 47 in the New York State Senate. He currently serves on the New York City Council, where his strong environmental stances have earned him a nearly perfect score on our environmental scorecard. During his tenure on the Council, Bottcher has championed expanding NYC’s urban tree canopy by sponsoring legislation to create an Urban Forest Master Plan, with a goal of reaching 30 percent canopy coverage citywide. He has also advanced legislation to curb single-use plastics and promote reusable alternatives; supported initiatives such as congestion pricing and the installation of protected bike lanes throughout his district. Additionally, he has directed funds toward improving local parks and open spaces, including Hell’s Kitchen Park and Chelsea Waterside Park, and supported green streets, sidewalk planters, and nature-based solutions that mitigate flooding, extreme heat, and air pollution. If elected, Bottcher will support a robust Cap-and-Invest program, decarbonization of buildings and transportation, implementation of renewable energy sources like offshore wind, improvement of water quality, and building climate resilient communities.
