Ed Smyth is running for re-election as Huntington Town Supervisor.

Ed Smyth is running for re-election as Huntington Town Supervisor. Since first being elected in 2021, Smyth has advanced a broad pro-environment agenda that emphasizes both community action and long-term sustainability. Under his leadership, Huntington earned Bronze certification as a Climate Smart Community and has been recognized annually as a Tree City USA community. Smyth launched the “Pick Up 6” initiative to encourage residents to reduce litter, spearheaded the creation of shellfish sanctuaries and a community oyster gardening program to improve water quality, and secured millions in state funding for advanced water treatment projects to remove contaminants like 1,4-dioxane. He has overseen the Town’s transition to electric vehicles, streamlined solar permitting, expanded energy efficiency in municipal buildings, and added a dedicated Energy Coordinator to guide sustainability efforts. Smyth has also prioritized land preservation, working with Suffolk County and the Town’s Environmental Open Space and Park Fund to protect historic properties and expand natural preserves, including the Stanhope Stables in Melville and the Henry Ingraham Nature Preserve in Northport. If re-elected, Smyth will continue to strengthen Huntington’s environmental leadership by advancing renewable energy, safeguarding the aquifer, and expanding open space to ensure a healthier and more resilient future.
