Statement from NYLCV’s Deputy Director for NYC Policy Alia Soomro on the Mayor’s FY26 September Capital Commitment Plan

The Mayor’s FY26 Capital Commitment Plan makes important investments that will mean cleaner air, safer streets, better parks, and stronger protections against climate impacts for New Yorkers,” said Alia Soomro, NYLCV Deputy Director for NYC Policy. “We are pleased to see funding allocated to help complete Phase 1 of the QueensWay project, restore wetlands at Idlewild Park, and upgrade the Staten Island Composting Facility, and we’re especially encouraged by the investments in park and playground improvements as well as critical flood protection for the East Side Coastal Resiliency project. Couple this with expanded automated traffic enforcement and more redesigned streets, and this plan is a solid step toward a safer, healthier, more resilient New York City.
