President Trump’s attempt to withhold billions in funding already appropriated in past fiscal years for the Gateway project – which is in the middle of construction in the Hudson River – and Second Avenue subway as a form of retaliation is a rank abuse of power and an unconscionable breach of trust between the federal government, American workers, and the cities and towns they build. This administration is torching the credibility of the federal government, pushing chaos when we need stability, and treating American workers as expendable. We call on the entirety of New York’s congressional delegation to fight this unjust order and make clear that the whims of one bully cannot mitigate the desire of millions of New Yorker for reliable and resilient transportation infrastructure.
