“We’re deeply disappointed that the New York State Public Service Commission voted today to halt the offshore wind transmission plan for New York City. While the federal government continues to undermine progress on clean energy, New York should be doubling down on our commitment to become energy independent, not stalling it.
“There is no clean energy transition without transmission. Demand for electricity is poised to surge. Projects like this are critical to delivering renewable power where it’s needed most, reinforcing and bolstering our electrical grid, and delivering cleaner air to New York City communities. These lines take many years to plan, permit, and build – by kicking the can now, we’re risking falling behind in our clean energy transition and driving up costs in the future.
“New York has been a national leader on offshore wind and climate action. Governor Hochul’s leadership saved Empire Wind, which will power 500,000 homes and support thousands of union jobs. We need that same urgency and vision here. We recognize the challenges the offshore wind industry is facing from Washington, but advancing this plan would have given developers and communities the certainty they need, and secured a cleaner, more reliable energy future for all New Yorkers.”
