Ellen Calves
Ellen Calves is running for re-election as the Bedford Town Supervisor. As a Town Board member and then as Town Supervisor, she has championed a pro-environmental agenda. She led the effort to pass the NY Stretch Code in Bedford, increased solar capacity, and planted more native plants in town landscape projects. She also voted to change the town purchasing policy to require new, light-duty vehicles to be hybrid or electric and has worked with the police department on a partial transition to electric vehicles. Additionally, she helped implement the EPA Energy Portfolio Benchmarking for town buildings, worked to expand sewers to protect water quality, and passed a policy requiring low-carbon embodied emissions concrete in municipal projects. Through Sustainable Westchester’s Community Choice Aggregation program, she transitioned two town buildings to fossil fuel-free HVAC systems (and is working on two more). Bedford is also among the top-ranking NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities and a Silver Climate Smart Community. If re-elected, she will keep working so that we all have clean air, clean water, access to healthy food, and the opportunity to live in a world that is not so toxic and polluted.Â
