NYLCV is committed to advancing sustainability policies and initiatives across New York State. Growth and development are critical and must be managed in a manner that does not overwhelm the ability of the environment to support the population. Sustainability seeks to marry economic growth with environmental protection.

In 2008, the Westchester County Global Warming Task Force released a countywide Climate change action plan called the Westchester Plan for Climate Change and Sustainable Development (WAP 2008). This document lays out a comprehensive vision or a sustainable future for Westchester County and commits the county to a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2015 and an 80 percent reduction by 2050.

NYLCV applauds this bold and forward-thinking initiative and highlights here some of the measures we believe to be of the greatest urgency. It is our hope that, through intelligent and forward-thinking planning, Westchester County can address these challenges and create communities that will be models of suburban sustainability.

This questionnaire is for the following candidates:

  • County Executive / County Board of Legislators
  • Town Supervisors
  • City Mayors
