Congestion Pricing

gridlockgridlockCongestion pricing on bridges and roads helps to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and reduce air pollution. In New York, congestion pricing is just beginning to be embraced. In early 2001, the Port Authority began to use congestion pricing and the results have been very positive, showing a clear shift of some trips into off-peak periods.

Solution

  • Extend the congestion pricing system on Port Authority bridges and tunnels to MTA bridges and tunnels.
  • Look for opportunities to collaborate with other states in the region.
