Great Lakes

The federal government has embarked on a Great Lakes Collaborative Task Force process to identify the priority actions needed to restore the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence River ecosystem. The Task Force report has identified a $20 billion restoration need and called for actions by federal, state and local governments. There is current legislation in Washington to fund and move forward a Great Lakes Agenda and the State of New York has a Great Lakes 25 year plan that needs updating and funding to continue progress made with monies from the 1996 Bond Act.

Solution

Endorse the Great Lakes Collaborative Action plan, update its Great Lakes plans consistent with the national effort and develop funding mechanisms for its implementation.
