BEDFORD --- The New York League of Conservation Voters, which works to make environmental sustainability a top political and policy priority in New York State, has announced its endorsement of Bedford Town Supervisor Lee V. A. Roberts for re-election.

Supervisor Roberts has an impressive record on environmental issues, especially on energy conservation. Due to Ms. Roberts' efforts and collaboration with the Town Board, Bedford has set a greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal of 20 percent by 2020 and created an action plan to achieve it. The town is working on legislation to require Energy Star standards for residential buildings and LEED standards for commercial buildings. Ms. Roberts is also a member of the Westchester Climate Change Advisory Panel and a member of the Westchester Municipal Officials "Green Subcommittee," working on sustainability forums for all communities in the county.

"The Town of Bedford needs elected representatives who can meet today's environmental challenges and lay the foundation for a cleaner, greener future," said Marcia Bystryn, president of the New York League of Conservation Voters. "That's why the New York League of Conservation Voters is proud to endorse Supervisor Lee Roberts for re-election."

In response to the endorsement, Supervisor Roberts said: "I am very pleased to have been recognized by the New York League of Conservation Voters for the great strides the Town Board have made in doing what we can to protect our town's natural environment.  One of the many reasons our neighbors have chosen to live here is because of the clean air and beautiful surroundings.  We will continue to commit ourselves to an environmentally sustainable future."

The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) was founded in 1989 as a nonpartisan, policy making and political action organization that works to make environmental protection a top priority with elected officials, decision makers, and voters by evaluating incumbent performance and endorsing and electing environmental leaders to office in New York State.
