Gov. Paterson says Broadwater is "inconsistent" with state coastal zone management policies.
Broadwater Energy [1], the company behind a proposal for a liquefied natural gas terminal on Long Island Sound, is vowing to press ahead with its plans despite Gov. David Paterson's opposition.
According to Newsday [2], Broadwater says it has a "number of options" and that it will fully review the governor's decision and findings -- also announced Thursday -- and then will evaluate the next steps. They could include appealing the state's decision to the U.S. Department of Commerce and going to court.
Gov. Paterson outlined the initial steps [3] his administration will take to meet the growing demand for energy on the island. The governor outlined his concerns about the Broadwater proposal, including questions over whether a large section of the sound should be turned over to a private company and the assertion that other energy solutions exist in the region.
