Officials estimate it would take five to eight years to complete an environmental review of transit upgrades.Nassau County's plan to improve transportation in and around its major business district has just received a $19.5 million boost in federal funding to proceed with its next step.
According to Newsday [1], the funding will be used to conduct an environmental impact study for transportation improvements, which could include the construction of a light rail or bus system connecting each corner of the Hub. However, some local officials are skeptical that transportation alternatives will actually motivate Long Islanders to ditch their cars.
The study could take up to eight years to complete.
