The Broadwater LNG terminal would be located nine miles north of the coast of Riverhead.Broadwater Energy [1] and the New York Department of State [2] have agreed on a two-month postponement on a decision of the terminal's environmental appropriateness. The decision had been expected next week.
According to Newsday [3], the Department of State indicated the decision was ""by mutual agrement...to allow for further discussion of what is a very complex proposal." Neither side would comment about specific concerns or reasons for the deadline extension beyond that.
Broadwater Energy is hoping to build a liquefied natural gas terminal on a ship-like vessel in Long Island Sound. Its construction and questions about its impact on the environment and its security have become the focus of a heated debate on Long Island.
