Abu Dhabi's Masdar City is a 2.3-square-mile complex that by 2016 should hold 50,000 people who will work on next-generation technologies aimed to lessen the toll on the environment.
The eco-friendly city would be powered by solar-thermal arrays, and waste would be fully recycled.
