Elected Officials Must Get Staten Island A Mass-Transit Fix

Many Staten Islanders have their misgivings about congestion pricing, but they should not underestimate the benefits it could bring, says Cormac Gordon in the Staten Island Advance [1].

While polls [2] show that 74 percent of islanders don't support congestion pricing (that number drops to 47 percent if CP pays for better transit), the federal government is waiting to cut a $354 million check to NYC as soon as the plan is passed for new buses. In addition, congestion pricing could pay for $400 million in mass transit improvements each year. That's news to the ears of Staten Island residents, where the mass transit infrastructure is currently too small.
