According to the Post-Standard [1], representatives from a group opposed to the New York Regional Interconnect project, Communities Against Regional Interconnect [1], from upstate New York are set to meet with officials from the Bloomberg administration over the proposed NYRI $1.6 billion power line project.

The group and opponents have expressed concern over an increase in upstate electricity rates while supporters have noted the benefits of a more stable power grid and a decrease in electric costs for the New York metropolitan area.

CARI has also suggested other ways to solve New York City's energy problem such as upgrading existing and outdated power plants and infrastructure.

"We want to find out what they really think about this project, talk to them about other ideas we have. We want to try to find common ground." said Paul Miller, Madison County Assistant Planning Director.
