Remembering Patty Noonan

Patty NoonanPatty NoonanOn Dec. 11, 2007, New York City lost one of its best and brightest advocates for environmental sustainability when Patty Noonan passed away after a after a nine-month battle with non-smoking related lung cancer. She leaves behind her husband Chris, 15-month-old daughter Lily. A memorial service will be scheduled for January.

Patty most recently had served as senior vice president for policy & economic development at the Partnership for New York City [1]. In addition to her responsibilities, she represented the partnership on the Mayor’s Energy Policy Task Force, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation’ [2]s Telecommunications Policy Advisory Committee. Previously, Patty served as director of sustainable development initiatives at the New York City Housing Partnership [3], where she directed the High Performance “Green” Building program and provided environmental review and oversight for the partnership’s New Homes Program, which has developed over 20,000 units of housing for first-time homeowners in low- and moderate-income communities across the five boroughs.
Patty earned an MPA in public policy analysis from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service [4] and an undergraduate degree in theatre from San Francisco State University. She was also a member of the 2000-2001 Coro Foundation [5]’s “Leadership New York” class, a yearlong program designed to develop the next generation of city leaders from among the public, private and non-profit sectors.
To keep alive our memories of Patty and to help her daughter understand the important contributions she made to the city, a fellowship for young women pursuing a degree in public policy will be established in her name at the Wagner School.
