Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Thursday named Robert Lieber, president of the city's Economic Development Corp., as the new deputy mayor for economic development. He succeeds Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff, who will be stepping down in January but is widely expected to remain influential behind the scenes.
According to the New York Times [1], Lieber appears likely to follow Doctoroff's footsteps. The two have worked closely on a number of projects, including Moynihan Station, Coney Island and the Hudson Yards. The pair also worked at Lehman Brothers before coming to city government.

On Thursday, Bloomberg also named Ed Skyler as deputy mayor for operations. He will oversee several departments, including the Office of Long-Term Planning, which is championing the city's PlaNYC program.
