The Healthy Schools Network [1] announced it has been successful in getting a provision, S.506, inserted in the High Performance Green Building Act of 2007.

The insertion mandates that the EPA provide grants to the states to promote healthy school environments using EPA tools, to address issues such as air quality, pesticide and chemical use on school property, and other related programs. The provision also includes directing the EPA to create federal guidelines for school sitings and forces them to take into potential hazards and transportation modes

In addition. S.506 also establishes a federal Office of Green Buildings and promotes research for new studies on the link between school environments, children's health and learning.
