According to the Ithaca Journal [1], New York Regional Interconnect Inc [2] , the company that wants to build a 190-mile power line in central New York, has filed papers with state regulators to seek out whether or not they have the authority to approve the project.
Because of the recent move by the Bush Administration and Congress, the federal government is now able to approve energy transmission projects and create energy corridors, in areas that it deems important to national interests and circumvent the states ability to approve projects within their territory.
Many citizens and communities in New York remain adamantly opposed to the proposed project because the project would require forced land sales to the company under eminent domain.
The U.S Department of Energy [3] is continuing to review objections to its proposed projects.
