The Niagara Gazette [0] is reporting that New York State environmental officials have confirmed that PCB contamination has been found outside a Porter landfill operated by CMW Chemical Services.

After a preliminary investigation, The Department of Environmental Conservation [1] found that PCB toxins have found their way into the sediment around the facility. Currently, the DEC is actively attempting to track down the source of this contamination and also whether it will have any effect on ground water supplies, as there are nearby creeks.

The DEC has called for the immediate removal of sediment at two sites where the elevated PCB levels were found and a more extensive testing of sediment around the landfill's area.

CMW responded to the report by saying they are confident that no hazardous waste has left the facility.
