The MTA is considering the development of an underground reservoir to alleviate subway flooding, according to the New York Daily News [1].

After a catastrophic shut down of the subway system caused by a rain storm in early August, the Metropolitan Transit Authority [2] is investigating several different approaches to easing delays and stalls caused by flooding, said spokesman Paul Fleuranges. The underground reservoir is one option, which would buy land near the Parsons Boulevard subway station on the F line in Southeast Queens to build holding tanks that store diverted water.

The plan is still in its early stages and will require negotiation with the current owners of the land over its purchase.
