The Indian Point nuclear power plantLawyers for the state Department of Environmental Conservation [1] submitted comments to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission [2], demanding that the agency review Indian Point Nuclear Plant's license renewal application in greater detail, according to the Journal News [3].
The DEC argues that the original license granted in the 1970s ignored environmental factors such as emergency planning, potential for terrorist attacks and earthquake dangers. A license renewal application to operate a nuclear plant is less stringent than a new license application, and DEC officials believe the higher standard is more appropriate.
The NRC said that it will consider all comments.
