Solid Waste & Recycling

Teaser:

Background:
RecyclingRecyclingRecycling should play a key role in reducing solid waste and managing the disposition of hazardous materials.
Solution:
The League urges the counties and municipalities to:
  • Strengthen residential recycling programs to reduce the waste stream.  Provide greater incentives to reuse waste products such as grass, shrub clippings, cardboard, and wood items.  Promote regular recycling days for household hazardous wastes (paints and thinners, etc.), batteries and other special materials.
  • Create mandatory requirements for the commercial recycling of beverage containers, newspapers, cardboard boxes, and other reusable materials.
  • Expand and improve both the residential and commercial recycling programs by promoting investments in state-of-the-art metal, glass and paper processing and remanufacturing facilities.
