Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease.

EHD should become a household name in Albany County after the DEC discovered several deer in the area infected with the disease.

The disease is passed though  biting flies called midges that usually die in the  late summer. With the warmer temperatures lately, they have stuck around.

This disease is not a major threat but the DEC will continue to monitor the area. Commissioner Pete Grannis said, "While other states' experiences indicate that it is not anticipated to have a long-term effect on the health of our deer herd, we will continue to monitor the spread of this disease and its potential impact.
