White Plains has seen a boom in development in recent years.On Wednesday, candidates for the White Plains City Council [1] were spurred into a debate on how to preserve open space and relieve overcrowding downtown after several questions were prompted from the audience members.
The candidates had various solutions on how to solve sprawl issues. Democratic Councilman Dennis Power called for stepping up efforts to preserve open space and raising fines for landlords who rent illegal units. Independent candidate Robert Levine suggested that the Council rewrite its comprehensive plan, and that the Council should improve communication with residents.
The debate attracted eight out of nine candidates who are seeking three seats in the Council.
