Peconic Bay Estuary

Teaser:

Background:
Each year, more than one million people visit the remarkable Peconic Estuary on the eastern end of Long Island. The estuary has long supported a wide range of economic and recreational uses, but increasing haphazard use is jeopardizing its sustainability. It is one of only 28 estuaries across the country designated as an estuary of national significance by the National Estuary Program. Setting management actions that foster commercial and recreational use that is sustainable and compatible with protection of biodiversity ensures that a balance is struck between preservation and the wise use of the Estuary`s natural resources.
Solution:
Pass the Peconic Bay Estuary Protection Act, A.7893b (DiNapoli)/S.1365b (LaValle), which would implement the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan already approved by the Governor and the EPA.
