Background:
The federal government has embarked on a Great Lakes Collaborative Task Force process to identify the priority actions needed to restore the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence River ecosystem. The Task Force report has identified a $20 billion restoration need and called for actions by federal, state and local governments. There is current legislation in Washington to fund and move forward a Great Lakes Agenda and the State of New York has a Great Lakes 25 year plan that needs updating and funding to continue progress made with monies from the 1996 Bond Act. Solution:
Endorse the Great Lakes Collaborative Action plan, update its Great Lakes plans consistent with the national effort and develop funding mechanisms for its implementation.
