The Wendt and Bennett beaches in Evans, Erie County's only public beaches, have been closed Monday through Friday.

According to the Buffalo News [1], more than 200 people broke the rules one day this week and took to the two Evans beaches to swim and cool off.

The elimination of lifeguards, except for weekends, and the closing of the two beaches Monday through Friday is one of the consequences of the county's two-year-old budget crisis.
