The health [1] and conservation [2] departments have issued a statewide air quality advisory for Tuesday, warning of high levels of the pollutant ozone. The advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Such advisories are issued when meteorologists predict pollution levels that exceed 100 on the Air Quality Index [3].
According to The Times Union [4], The Department of Environmental Conservation [5] said automobile exhaust and out-of-state emissions are the primary causes of ground-level ozone, a major component of smog, and they constitute the most serious air pollution problems in the Northeast.
