The Suffolk County Legislature [1] voted Tuesday to require builders tapping into any of the county's two dozen sewer districts to earmark 20 percent of the units for affordable housing. This law is the latest effort to press for increased affordable housing that young workers and the elderly can afford.

Steve Levy [2], the County Executive, has some environmental qualms on signing the measure. According to Newsday [3], Levy said: "It could increase the stock of workforce housing, but it could also encourage of the use of less environmentally friendly sewage options."
