Janette Sadik-Khan [1], Mayor Bloomberg's new NYC DOT [2] Commissioner, can frequently be seen riding her bike through the West Village to her Church St. office.
One of her major goals as commissioner is to "green up" the NYC DOT. This includes making the city friendlier for cyclists and pedestrians with more bicycle lanes and places for cyclists to store their bicycles while working.
Her environmentally friendly transportation choice coincides perfectly with Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC [3] to reduce traffic and pollution by instituting congestion pricing.
According to the [3]NY Daily News [4], Paul Steely White, Executive Director of Transportation Alternatives [5] said that Sadik-Khan's appointment marks "a new era for New York City streets. The Streets are not just for driving but can be redesigned for the majority, who don't drive."
Bike safely!
