State lawmakers' progress on the agenda will inform the endorsements and election campaign decisions that NYLCV will make this spring and summer. NYLCV is the only statewide organization that uses the power of endorsements to elect environmental leaders, and its political action committee - NYLCV PAC - is the only state PAC focused on the environment.

To kick off the start of the legislative and election season, NYLCV PAC will hold its first fundraiser of the year on Jan. 30 at the Fort Orange Club in Albany, featuring U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko as the guest speaker.

"NYLCV's State Policy Agenda sets clear benchmarks for progress and accountability. Lawmakers who actively pursue these goals will earn our environmental endorsement and are eligible for support from our political action committee. Those who do not, will not," said Marcia Bystryn, NYLCV's President. "Albany made important progress last year, and our goal is to continue that momentum in 2012. We look forward to working with legislators in both houses and on both sides of the aisle to make New York leader on the environment and clean energy."

NYLCV crafted its 2012 State Policy Agenda with input from partner organizations in the conservation, environmental, transportation and clean-energy communities. In addition to reflecting a broad sustainability vision, the agenda is focused on making environmental progress while also encouraging economic growth and creating jobs.

The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) was founded in 1989 as a nonpartisan, policy-making and political action organization that works to make environmental protection a top priority with elected officials, decision makers, and voters by evaluating incumbent performance and endorsing and electing environmental leaders to office in New York State.
