NYLCV Endorses Kirsten Gillibrand for CongressAugust 24, 2006Contact: Marcia Bystryn (212) 361 6350 x208The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV), the non-partisan voice of New York State’s environmental community announces their endorsement of Kirsten Gillibrand for the 20th District of Congress. "We are delighted to endorse Kirsten Gillibrand for the 20th District of Congress. Her stance on energy, conservation and other environmental issues will protect the quality of life for her constituency and for the nation," said NYLCV Capital District Chapter Chair, David Sampson. "NYLCV wholeheartedly supports her plans to develop national policies that recognize the importance of linking environmental stewardship with economic development," added Marcia Bystryn, NYLCV’s Executive Director. Gillibrand has served as attorney to Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Andrew Cuomo and is currently a board member for the Commission on Greenway Heritage Conservancy for the Hudson River Valley. If elected, she plans on working closely with members of the New York Congressional delegation in order to support New York State priorities such as conservation, reduced dependence on foreign oil, reductions in harmful emissions and the protection of pristine waterways and lands. She will also support the research and development of renewable energy sources through large government subsidies and grants to create jobs upstate, safeguard national security and improve the overall quality of the environment. In response to the endorsement, Gillibrand said, "I am committed to making the necessary changes today that will protect our natural resources for future generations. I am honored by NYCLV’s endorsement and proud to stand with them in their fight to protect the environment." Environmental Issues |
