A tireless advocate for clean and sustainable energy policies
WASHINGTON - Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) announced the joint endorsement of Eric Massa for Congress in the election for the 29th Congressional District of New York.
"Eric Massa is a proven leader who has spent his life serving our nation with great esteem," said LCV President Gene Karpinski. "He will provide a strong and consistent voice in Congress and will tirelessly advocate for clean and sustainable energy policies."
"Voters in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier have a choice: To stick with the failed environmental policies of the past or to look toward a cleaner, greener future," said Marcia Bystryn, president of the New York League of Conservation Voters. "For anyone interested in real solutions to climate change and the energy challenges of the 21st century, the choice is an easy one - Eric Massa for Congress."
Energy and the environment are imperative issues in Massa's platform and he believes in diversifying American energy sources through an investment in renewable technology. Massa understands the enormous impact of climate change and supports legislation that would raise CAFÉ standards and reduce global warming pollution 15-20% by 2020, and 80% by 2050.
"At this crucial time, America needs to invest in clean energy sources and stop wasting our tax dollars on handouts to Big Oil," Massa said. "The development of renewable energy technology will create jobs, stimulate our economy and help ensure our national security."
The 29th District of New York is home to a portion of the Finger Lakes as well as the Southern Tier of the Appalachians. The conservation of this region's natural treasures is a strong priority of Eric Massa. He understands the alternative energy potential of the district and wants to increase initiatives that will put Western New York at the forefront of clean technology development.
Eric Massa's opponent, Rep. John Randy Kuhl has an appalling environmental record and his lifetime LCV score is a pathetic 22%. On Tuesday, he proved his long standing opposition to breaking America's addiction to oil by voting in favor of the Republican leadership's motion to increase our dependence on oil, continuing tax breaks for big oil companies and failing to invest in the clean, renewable energy sources like wind and solar.
"The working families of the 29th District are tired of business as usual in Washington," Karpinski said. "To permanently bring down energy costs, create good jobs, and ensure financial security, America needs to end our dangerous addiction to foreign oil and embrace a sustainable future and we need to elect Eric Massa to make it possible."
