Representing the 37th District in Westchester County
NEW YORK --- The New York League of Conservation Voters, the political voice for New York's environmental community, today announced its endorsement of Suzi Oppenheimer for re-election in the 37th Senate District, which encompasses eastern and central Westchester County.
Sen. Oppenheimer has been a leader in scrutinizing, debating and challenging anti-environmental initiatives. She has supported measures to improve New York's State Environmental Quality Review Act and worked to preserve wildlife habitat. She helped found and serves on the Long Island Sound Bi-State Marine Resources Committee, which seeks to protect this vital natural resource.
In the 2008 legislative session, Sen. Oppenheimer supported a forward-thinking proposal to reduce traffic congestion, voted to expand the Environmental Protection Fund and co-sponsored a bill to expand the state's ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.
"Suzi Oppenheimer is one of the key senators that we look to for environmental leadership," said Marcia Bystryn, president of the New York League of Conservation Voters. "Throughout her time in public office, Senator Oppenheimer's environmental advocacy has been outstanding, making her one of the top environmental supporters in Albany."
In response to the endorsement, Sen. Oppenheimer said: "The New York League of Conservation Voters is an influential group whose endorsement I have enjoyed since their earliest years. I am honored to have my environmental commitment recognized by them again."
