New York, NY --- NYLCV applauds Mayor Bloomberg and his administration for working tirelessly over the past 11 months to develop a vision for 2030 that will ensure New York remains a world class leader in terms of its economy, quality of life, and its natural environment throughout the 21st Century. Marcia Bystryn, Executive Director of the New York League of Conservation Voters said, "Mayor Bloomberg has broadened the environmental agenda to include transportation and energy policy, infrastructure investment and a commitment to affordable housing. In doing so he has created the framework for a truly sustainable New York." The effort began in May 2006 when Mayor Bloomberg announced his vision to make New York a sustainable city at NYLCV's 2006 Spring Gala, it continued in September 2006 when he created his Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability, and reached new heights in December 2006 when he outlined his broad goals at an event hosted by NYLCV in Queens. After months of public outreach, today's speech marks the end of the planning process and the beginning of a new phase where the administration, advocates, and all new yorkers will be counting on all levels of government to embrace this plan and enact the laws and invest the dollars necessary to achieving the ambitious and critical goals laid out by the mayor today.
