Don't Hold Plan Hostage
Source: Newsday
Publication Date: May 8, 2006 "Nassau Legislature on a Downhill Path" [News, April 27] noted: "Bills die because of personal pique; bills live because of personal gain. Harmless bills move fast; ones perceived to be flawed move fast, too." We hope this is not the case with the open space preservation plan. This plan, recently presented to the Nassau County Legislature by the Environmental Program Advisory Committee, is designed to save open space, preserve two working farms, spruce up parks, clean up brownfields and protect waterways and wetlands. It is not a plan that should be held hostage because of political discord over which legislator's district was awarded better projects.
