NYLCV Endorses Three Candidates In Central New York
We support Bill Magnarelli for Onondaga County Executive. Magnarelli is currently a state Assemblyman representing Syracuse as well as other parts of the county. In his time serving the Onondaga County community, Magnarelli has been an advocate for state-sponsored clean up of Onondaga Lake as well as biofuel production and research. He secured funds for the New York Environmental Quality Center, which is a non-for-profit corporation that develops leadership in the field of indoor environmental quality systems. Magnarelli's extensive record of advocating for pro-environmental policies includes fighting for the Bigger Better Bottle Bill and supporting the Community Preservation Act, Clean Water Protection/Flood Prevention Act and the Climate Change Solutions Act and Fund. Among his priorities for the Onondaga County post are developing more transportation options, striking a better balance between environmental sustainability and economic growth, and protecting natural resources. According to Magnarelli: "Ensuring that our people have clean air and water is of paramount importance." Click here to read more about Bill Magnarelli's environmental platform.
Lattimore cites energy as the leading environmental issue facing his city. He helped develop the Auburn Municipal Power Authority and a bio-digester that uses methane gas from landfills to reduce dependence on natural gas. If re-elected, Lattimore hopes to continue to reduce the overall cost of energy and promote renewable alternatives. Lattimore has already entered into a working relationship with McQuay International, which is a company that manufactures geothermal energy, to explore the possibilities. It is Polimeni's hope that, if re-elected, she will be able to continue her work maintaining the health of Canandaigua Lake, exploring alternative fuels and implementing smart growth strategies like revitalizing low income, blighted parts of town. She also wants to continue to study geo-exchange technology, which might be incorporated into city-owned facilities. To learn more about Ellen Polimeni's environmental platform click here.
