Danger From Toxic ChemicalsSubmitted by Sergio Hernandez on Fri, 2008-05-23 17:32.
The Friends of the Earth , a California nonprofit group, found that 56 percent of infant carriers, 44 percent of car seats, 40 percent of strollers and 19 percent of portable cribs contained halogenated fire retardants. These chemicals, introduced in an effort to hinder fires, have been linked to cancer, birth defects, hormone disruption, neurological and reproductive dysfunction, and learning disabilities. Restless of the new findings, some parents have suggested a ban on these fire retardants. Long Island lawmakers, dreary of the finds, introduced a legislation that would "phase out fire retardants". |
