New York Civic Forum On Congestion Pricing

Event Date: 01/09/2008
6:30pm - 8:30pm

New York Civic, in cooperation with the Museum of the City of New York, will hold a forum on Wednesday, January 9th to discuss Mayor Bloomberg’s plan for congestion pricing, now under study by a 17-member commission.

This event will feature a panel discussion, asking some of these important questions: What effect will congestion pricing actually have on downtown and midtown traffic, and on people's pockets? What price are people willing to pay for cleaner air and less congested streets, if they materialize? Should the East River bridges charge $5 tolls? Should Jersey residents get free entry to NYC because the tunnel toll will be $8, deductible from the city's fee? How will the charges be collected? Who can compel out-of-staters to pay? How?

Members of the panel will include Congressman Anthony Weiner (Brooklyn-Queens), former Council Member Walter McCaffrey, now employed by a group opposing the zone, and Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO of the Partnership for New York City and member of the Mayor’s PlaNYC commission. The panel is incomplete.

The moderator of the discussion, and the audience participation which will follow, will be New York Civic President Henry J. Stern.

Reservations are required - please RSVP here. $9 general admission, $5 for museum members, students and seniors.
