PROGRAM:

Will rising sea levels, powerful storms, polluted air and intolerable heat bring the City to a halt? Is New York City vulnerable to a "Katrina"?

Will Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC2030 protect the City from "A Perfect Storm"?

In December 2006, Mayor Bloomberg challenged New Yorkers to imagine their City's future. On April 22nd, he presented "the most sweeping plan to strengthen New York's urban environment in the City's history." On June 13th, our speakers will concentrate on those areas of the plaNYC which deal with climate change.

SPEAKERS:

Rohit Aggarwala, Director, Long-term Planning and Sustainability, Mayor's Office of Operations, will set the stage by discussing the Mayor's recently released plaNYC, concentrating on those areas directly related to climate change.

Drew Becher, Executive Director, New York Restoration Project, in addition to his current responsibilities, brings experience from working in Chicago and Washington D.C. He created the Greening Agenda for Mayor Daley and will describe how cities are planning to meet the
challenges of climate change and how NYC's efforts measures up. He will also talk about the role of non-profits in addressing the issues.

Marcia Bystryn, Executive Director, New York League of Conservation Voters, will take an advocate's look at climate change as described in plaNYC and look at how we can all develop an advocacy agenda at the City and State level.
